They settled like a thick, white, treacherous blanket over a city brought to a standstill. It was the same sheet of ice on the road that had sent his company car into an uncontrolled pirouette and placed him here.
Here. In this bed. In this room, with the smell of disinfectant and stale coffee, and the constant, muffled beeping of machines he couldn’t see. Trapped.
Henrik Dahl, fifty-two years old, CEO accustomed to running an international corporation with an iron fist, stared up at the sterile white ceiling and was seized by a wave of pure, unfiltered rage. Both his arms were encased in hard, white plaster from fingertip to above the elbow, resting like two useless, dead logs on the duvet.
“Nurse!” he bellowed into the shared room, ignoring the elderly man snoring in the bed beside him.
